A little over a week ago, I was at a company gathering and our leader got up and said these two words two different ways. It was a powerful play on words – but one that made me pause, reflect, and now share.
How often I look back and remember saying to myself, "one day, I will..." or
"one day, I have to..." or even "one day,
I am going to..."
The majority of times what I said I wanted to do "one day" is still waiting for my action and still needs to be completed.
Let's flip the script and change the order of those words. Now it isn't one day; it's DAY ONE! What does that mean? It means that today I choose with intention to step forward. Today is DAY ONE of no more excuses. Today is DAY ONE of the rest of my life!
One-day mindset is procrastination. It is looking forward without a plan of action. It is hope without intent. This is not saying having a dream or goal is bad; it means a dream or a goal without action is just that – a dream or a goal.
DAY ONE is drawing the line in the sand. That line becomes your starting line. Sure, you still may not be able to see the finish line. But that is OK. You are starting the journey and remaining open to what lies ahead. The key is with a DAY ONE mindset, you are getting started.
Here's a challenge for us all on our growth journey: On those days you are looking ahead maybe without a plan, pause. Step back. Reflect. And then start drawing your line.
Are you ready to get started? Are you ready for DAY ONE?!
How are you winning?
