What Is Your Impact?

The great Jackie Robinson once said, "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives."
This got me thinking about the term IMPACT. The word is a noun that describes an action; the definition is "the action of one object coming forcibly into contact with another."
As I look back in my past, I can reflect on the impact certain people or situations have played in my life – some intentionally, others leaving their imprint on us through no fault of our own. I was definitely impacted before I learned how to impact.
I realize in life we can't control what is imprinted in us – the how, when, or why we are impacted either in our youth or in the world we live in today.
That said, Jackie Robinson reminds me that WE can be intentional and disciplined in our ability and willingness to impact people and scenarios we find ourselves in. We can look at every interaction as an opportunity to deepen relationships, add support to those who need it, optimism to situations that call for it, and an openness for discussion when called for.
What we give to others can be more IMPACTFUL than what we get. Why? Because in giving, we have the ability to be intentional in our approach, disciplined in our interaction, and open to the growth we gain through positively impacting others.
I encourage all of us on this journey to stay aware to the impact you create and surround yourselves with those who positively impact and challenge you. There is so much in this world we can't control, but through discipline, intention, and awareness we can all begin to enhance the lives we live and the lives we touch.
How are you winning?
